Dear John michel,
I am flattered that you asked for my input regarding the decision on whether or not you should run for public office in next year’s elections. I have had my share of time in politics, albeit for only a brief moment, and am happy to share my thoughts with you.
The first thing I am going to say about this matter is that politics is not for everyone. It is a world that is full of intrigue, gossip, controversy and is simply, exhausting. There will be many times that you will have to choose between spending time with family or entertaining political allies – most of the time, you will choose the latter. You need to think carefully about the sacrifices that you will have to make in relation to your personal life.
On the upside, at its core, politics can be quite fulfilling. It is, ideally, community service and there is much to be enjoyed in the process of helping others and uplifting the state of your community.
This is not going to be easy for you to decide on. I advise that you really set aside a lot of time to think things through. I want to assure you that I will always be here if you need someone to talk to or if you need further guidance.
